Tomato Shares - Direct from Farmer Bill!

Hello all,

I just received a call from Farmer Bill this morning and tomato shares in a very limited quantity will be available for the next 4 weeks.

The tomatoes are Italian Red "Paste" or "Plum" tomatoes and are perfect for tomato sauce and canning. They are being sold in 20 lb. boxes for $35 a box. Please follow the directions below for your orders. Please note that if you want a delivery for TOMORROW, you MUST order by noon today.

Directions for Tomato share orders:

Using Your Share, July Edition

In June the shares were somewhat smaller with often 5 or 6 items but as the summer progresses we are coming away every Tuesday with 7 different items, not to mention fruit, herbs, grains, meat, dairy, etc. While so much produce is a beautiful thing, it is also sometimes overwhelming. Thus, there are always things within your share you may be under utilizing, thinking you don't have time to make something with the item and even if you did, you couldn't possibly eat it this week.

The Fava Files

So now you have fava beans and need to do something with them.  Last year's fava bean share inspired the following geeky rant on my kitchen experience with this lovely but ...seemingly unearthly veggie:

I gotta tell ya I found all kinds of wonderful recipes online but actual information on other very important aspects…well… Let’s have a look:

- Storing – I found not much to zero information. I put them in a plastic bag in the crisper of my fridge. I put a few holes in the bag and a paper towel but neither are probably crucial.

Notes from the Green Thumb Farm

Summer is officially here and so is the heat. The last several weeks have been hot and dry and all our crops have been effected.

Our peas are coming in very quickly and are all bunching up as to when they are ready to harvest, coming in all at once. Coming in this fast they will then be gone just as fast.

We had a good strawberry season even with them coming in early and being done early; the dryness and heat made for very flavorful berries. The tomatoes are doing very well as the dryness and heat are serving them well, too.

Lewis Waite Reminder

Lewis Waite has extended the order deadline for the July 13th delivery to tomorrow, July 9th, so there is still plenty of time to place your orders for wonderful local meats, cheeses, breads, honey and many other lovely products.
