If you aren't into having an egg or three a day, this month, here is a tasty cake recipe I stumbled upon. It is really simple. I made a few changes to the original recipe and here is my version:

Blackberry Cornmeal Cake

-3/4 cup all-purpose flour

-3/4 cup yellow cornmeal, plus more for coating pan

-1&1/2 teaspoons baking powder

-1/4 teaspoon salt

-6 ounces unsalted butter, at room temperature

-1 cup granulated sugar

-1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

Registration for Summer 2009 Hellgate CSA shares will open very soon! Returning members will be invited to register first, followed by people who have signed up to our wait list. Here are the shares we will be offering:

Vegetable Share ($350.00) - Green Thumb Farm's basic produce share delivered once weekly to the distribution site. Includes tomatoes, squash, lettuce, eggplant, peppers, sweet potatoes, herbs, and more.  Distribution will be from June 9 - November 24, which works out to 25 weeks at $14/week.

March 10th Share

Good afternoon everyone! The share is being set-up as I type and there are some wonderful items, as usual, for us to enjoy during March. Below is the Omnivore and Veggie list. Please be advised there will be one other item per share, probably a jar of canned goods of some sort.

Granola and Egg Update

As you know, eggs and granola that were part of Tuesday's share were not available at Tuesday's pickup. They will be delivered and available for pickup on Sunday. Please refer to the email you should have received from Hellgate CSA listing the place and time of pickup. If you did not receive an email about Sunday's pickup, please contact info@hellgatecsa.com.

Carrots featured in the New York Times

We received copious amounts of glorious carrots for December and January and they last so long. Those of you who are sick of carrot sticks and aren't juicing these, may be running out of ideas. I wanted to share one of the op eds in the New York Times that was recently published. It is so exciting to see agriculture being discussed and so many passionate voices being shared!
